After flood, University implements Disaster Recovery plan to protect future
After a major flood in 2009 nearly destroyed their entire IT infrastructure, Valley City State University needed to be sure that future disasters would not destroy critical IT infrastructure, systems and data. These IT systems support nearly 1,400 studies and 81 degree programs. As a leader in distance learning, VCSU needs its systems that support the educational and administrative functions to be continuously available.
In 2009, a major flood nearly destroyed the University’s data center. Quick-thinking IT staff loaded up all of the servers, cabling and other equipment and moved them to a temporary location until a new and less vulnerable data center could be built. Although the campus was shut down for 4 months, this off-site data center enabled the University to continue classes online.
